As a first step of my thesis work, below is a video in which we have embedded a cartoon at the eyes and fades out gradually as the video progresses. The goal is to improve the eye gaze of children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder by first attracting them to the speaker's eyes (target) using the cartoon (prompt) the viewer is interested in, and then gradually fading out the prompt. There are many varieties to this basic theme including using a video for target rather than a still image and moving the prompt to different faces in a conversational video. To achieve maximum flexibility, we will soon release a web tool that allows parents and educators to upload their favorite target and prompt videos and create their own customized training material. A result-tracking system will also be established so that we can survey how useful our tools are in actual classroom. Please check with us soon. The audio track and cartoon footages are copyright material of Nickelodeon and its parent company Viacom, and are used here only for the explicit purposes for education and academic research.
