User Experience is a multidisciplinary field that studies the science of understanding the properties of human capability as well as the application of this understanding to the design, development and deployment of systems and services, in a variety of applications including medicine, education and decision sciences. User Experience studies all aspects of the way humans relate to the world around them with the intention of improving the experience of the end user. Recent research in includes. among others, investigations of mental workload in medical applications, measurement of mental workload with visualization techniques, the role of animations in supporting classroom learning, the impact of three-dimensional displays in emergency management decisions, and the development of telepresence technologies for distance learning. In addition to research, as part of the center’s teaching mission, a Certificate in Human Technology is offered to graduate students to make them educated on human capabilities that can constrain and enhance user experiences with technology.
