Title: Software Defined Networking, OpenFlow, and Their Applications
Speaker: Navjeet Sandhu, graduate student, University of Kentucky
Abstract: Software defined networking (SDN) is intended to improve programmability of computer networks. It decouples the control plane from the data plane in the network architecture and enables network administrators to provision network connections dynamically. The flow-based processing rules allow fine-grained control of access to network resources. This talk will give an introduction to software defined networking and its enabling protocol OpenFlow. It will present the architecture of OpenFlow enabled switches and demonstrate how an OpenFlow controller can communicate with them to modify their behaviors. Finally the talk will describe applications of software defined networking, such as Google’s “G-Scale Network”.
