Dr. Nathan Jacobs is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science. Dr. Jacobs’ research interest is to understand the relationship between images, the time and place they were captured, and the weather, activities, people, and objects that shared that time and place. His research focuses on understanding long sequences of outdoor imagery, specifically algorithms for inferring properties of the camera, the static scene, and the transient objects. This work has created a massive image dataset, important new problems with initial solutions, new computational tools, and a strong foundation for future work. On-going research areas include environmental applications of computer vision, using webcams for large-scale environmental monitoring and time-lapse video creation and interpretation.
